Through his columns from August 2020 to January 2022, the author describes the pressure placed on western democracies by the pandemic and the political changes that it accelerated. Democracies have been subjected to real, genuine, non-simulated stress tests, which have shone a light on their resilience as well as their flaws. An account of recent politics whose pages reveal the earliest signs of the geopolitical crisis menacing the global democratic order.

Sergio Fabbrini, author, political scientist, and contributor to Il Sole 24 Ore;
