The COVID-19 crisis has heightened economic inequality in many countries. During past societal crises in the twentieth century, such as war or depression, many governments responded by taxing the wealthy to restore a measure of fairness.  In this lecture I will ask whether history shows that governments should respond to the COVID-19 crisis in the same way.
