Palazzo Sardagna, current home of the offices of the Rectorate of the University of Trento, is one of the masterpieces of Mannerism and early Baroque in Trentino. Dating from the 16th century, the building is built around a large central courtyard, the largest among those found in the city's historic buildings. From the exterior, walking through the entrance hall embellished with heraldic coats of arms, one enters the courtyard punctuated by a double order of loggias and long galleries.

A researcher at CNR, he served as President of ARERA – the Italian Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and Environment for the 2018-2025 term, and as Vice-President of MedReg, the Association of Mediterranean Energy Regulators. Previously, he was Chairman and CEO of RSE – Ricerca Sistema Energetico (2010-2018).
