The stage of Teatro Sociale has been graced by the likes of Arturo Toscanini and Enrico Caruso. It has played host to Italy’s finest operas and plays, not to mention dance shows, New Year’s Eve parties and political rallies. A splendid example of Italian-style theatre, from 1819 until the 1960s, it served as the main backdrop of the city’s cultural scene. In 2000, after being purchased by the province and significant restoration works, it was returned to its former glory.

Philippe Aghion is a Professor at the College de France, at INSEAD, and at the London School of Economics, and a fellow of the Econometric Society and of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He has been awarded the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel in 2025 (jointly with Peter Howitt for their works on creative destruction, and with Joel Mokyr).

He contributes to positioning the OECD at the forefront of global economic policy thinking. ECO assists countries in the design, implementation, and evaluation of macro e structural polices. He has published extensively in top journals and holds a Ph.D. in Economics.
