The founder and leader of the Ulivo political party in Italy, he has been President of the European Union Commission, twice Prime Minister of Italy, and Chairman of the UN-African Union working group on peacekeeping missions in Africa. Professor of Economics and Industrial Policy at the University of Bologna, since 2010 he has taught at the China-Europe International Business School in Shanghai.
